Diapers Distributed

The Serve Planning Team and The Social Ministry Team are so thankful for the generous donation of diapers that took place in September to highlight the ELCA’s annual “God’s Work.  Our Hands” service project. The Diaper Program was implemented in 2021 in conjunction with the Blessing Closet and serves fifteen families each month with a large box of diapers (125-160 count) in our community. This year Zion will distribute diapers to about 180 families at the value of $4,500.  None

Thanks from Kim

A grateful and heartfelt thank you to all of you who have served in any capacity at Zion this year! You are the people who are making things happen. In Thomas Rainer’s book, “I Am a Church Member,” he discusses how as church members we all have a different role or function. Some are the hands, some the feet, some the ears or eyes — all different but all with something necessary and important to contribute. He goes on to

Thankful Giving

In the United States, we just celebrated Thanksgiving; a time to thank God for all the blessings He has provided to us. In Zambia, we are also grateful, but basic needs remain a struggle. Zambia is facing another year of severe drought. Lake Kariba, the world’s largest man-made lake and the nation’s main reservoir is at the lowest level since it was constructed 63 years ago. This is creating an impending major food crisis for the country. At the Village

Harvest of Hands Thanks You

At the time of this publication, our event is still in progress, but here’s what we know so far… Many hands were involved in making this event a success! We are so grateful for the many people who came to help and for the many donations. We had a wonderful time, and it was such a blessing to work together with others to accomplish our goal of raising money for the hungry. Everything looked fabulous! The Silent Auction area is

Financial Report 2022.11

October was again a good month for Zion in terms of our finances.  Our General Fund total income for the month was about $71,500 which is a little over 10% higher than that received in October of 2021.  And for the first time since last January, our General Fund income exceeded our monthly expenses.  For the year to date, however, we are still slightly behind last year’s income.  Our average weekly this year is about $13,800 whereas last year at

Together for a Purpose

In the October newsletter, I wrote about Jesus’ story of the shepherd leaving 99 sheep to go find that one sheep who did not show up for the morning roll call.  We considered that there is an element of that story we don’t often focus on.  Not only was the one found, but there were also 99 who were there to bring the one back to. The 99 made being together possible.  The 99 made the reunion and celebration possible.

Call Committee Update 2022.10

The members of your Call Committee are hard at work and we continue to ask for your prayers and support for our work. We are finishing up the necessary paperwork which we are required to submit to the Minneapolis Area Synod.  This paperwork is a framework for helping us describe Zion to potential candidates.  We pull together all kinds of details like what our mission is, how many people worship at Zion, how big our Sunday school is, what the

Voting Members

We love seeing Zion members around the building as well as in the community and hope you are finding ways to engage at Zion this fall. As we approach our annual meeting on Sunday, December 4, we want to make sure every eligible member can vote and make their voice heard. Voting membership offers you the opportunity to cast your vote for things like the budget, changes to ZLC’s constitution, voting on the call for the new senior pastor, and

Financial Report 20202.10

September was an encouraging financial month for Zion.  Our General Fund income/offering for the month was 6.6% higher than what we received in September 2021.  Our weekly average income for the month was just a few dollars short of $15,000.   For the year to date, we are still lagging behind last year’s income by 3.2%.  But with more months like September, we will be closing that gap. Our expenses for September are considerably greater than they were a year ago.
