How is it possible that giving can make our lives richer? In this apparent contradiction, consider two things we probably worry about the most: Our relationships and our possessions. How do we get them? And once we have them, how to keep them?
Consider your relationships, we value our relationships with spouses, friends, co-workers and within organizations. If we enter into these relationships with the intent to serve and give of ourselves, they grow and flourish. If, on the other hand, we enter into a relationship selfishly, or change and become selfish, trying to see how much we can get for ourselves, that relationship is eventually doomed. Giving is good for relationships!
Regarding possessions, God knows that the only way for us to be free of our worry and anxiety about possessions is to release our grip on them. In the First Commandment He commands us to place no other gods before Him. When we cling to possessions too tightly they become our gods.
He who trusts in his riches will wither. Proverbs 11:28
One man gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want. Proverbs 11:24
God knows; giving is good for the giver.
