Michelle has been married to Chris for 18 years, and they have two children, Ben & Emily. They started their faith journey at Zion last year after moving to Maple Lake from St. Louis Park where they attended Westwood Lutheran. When looking for a new church, it was important to them to find a faith home with community involvement, volunteer opportunities, and a large, well-established youth program.
It was difficult to leave Westwood after more than a decade, but we were very happy to find a home here at Zion.
Just a couple of weeks after they joined Zion, the Lewis family got involved with SERVE Weekend.
We helped cook and pack meals with Food for Friends, delivered treats and meals to the homes of other church members, and participated in the food packing event hosted at Zion.
They are looking forward to seeing what opportunities are available this year for SERVE Weekend and will be looking for similar projects, and Emily is looking forward to assisting with VBS.
After SERVE Weekend, Michelle and Emily quickly found more ways to get involved at Zion, including Meals on Wheels, Holiday Fair, Christmas bag delivery, Z-Fest, and assisting with worship.
These are all simple ways to set a good example for our kids and others. ‘Living God’s Call’ means not just attending services on Sunday, it means being active with your faith community and the community you live in. It means giving of your time and talents by volunteering to step out of your comfort zone and try new things to help others. There are so many great opportunities available, even for those with busy schedules. It only takes a short amount of time to make a big difference in many people’s lives. We continue to volunteer because we love seeing the smiles on people’s faces, it’s fun and we enjoy sharing time with people.
Michelle and Emily now serve together on the ‘Chef’s Choice’ Wednesday supper team.
Emily and I are a volunteer duo. This is something we really enjoy doing together as it’s more fun when you can share your experience with family and friends. Serving Wednesday night meals takes minimal time and benefits many. We are making memories together and working towards a common goal. Emily is learning life skills such as cooking and serving. It is easy, fun, and rewarding. We get to meet new people, and put a smile on their face.
Michelle has worked with Allina for 15 years most recently as a paramedic on the ambulance. She enjoys spending time with her family camping, hiking, and taking long road trips. She also volunteers with the Maple Lake Fire Department Ambulance. Her favorite Bible verse is Psalm 46:10
Be still, and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations, I am exalted in the earth.
It is a reminder from God to slow down and acknowledge his presence in our everyday life.
Emily is a 7th grader at Maple Lake High School and involved with gymnastics, speech team, and dance. She is a 2nd year confirmation student at Zion and enjoys attending youth group, Camp Wapo and volunteering at Zion and her school. Her favorite Bible verse is Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8.
