This summer a group of high school students and a few caring adults will be travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for a week of serving, learning, worshiping, and playing. This service learning trip will be a great opportunity for these students to learn how to be the hands and feet of Christ in this world.
We have chosen to travel to Milwaukee for a few different reasons. First, we wanted to stay a little closer to home this year as we know in 2018 our travels will take us to Texas. Second, we did some research on a few cities in the Midwest and determined Milwaukee will be where we can make the biggest difference. Milwaukee is the 4th poorest city in the United States and is tied for 1st as the most racially segregated (tied with Detroit). The economic poverty is also staggering, 54% of the population of Milwaukee has an annual household income of less than $15,000 and 41% of Milwaukee’s children are living below the poverty line.
What Can I Do to Help?
First, we humbly ask for your prayers as we prepare for this trip. Please pray for the group that we are prepared mentally, spiritually and physically. Please pray for the people with whom we will serve while in Milwaukee. Finally, please pray for God to lead, guide and shape this trip to be exactly want it needs to be.
Second, we humbly ask for your financial support for this trip. This can be done through the three planned fundraisers. We will host the Palm Sunday Breakfast on April 9 and a Car Wash in June. We will also be selling stock in our trip, asking people to invest in the lives of these young people. When we return from Milwaukee we will hold a stockholders meal to share stories, pictures and our memories.
