A World With No Books

School of Hope Library Site

How can students in Zambia learn to read without books to read?

How can students in Zambia learn about our world without books to read?

How can students in Zambia become world citizens without knowing about the world beyond their villages without books to read?

Public (government) schools in Zambia have no books, so of course no libraries.

Towns and cities do not have libraries.

Most people do not have access to the internet so without books or internet it is impossible to do research, learn about things, or do projects.

At the School of Hope in Zambia, Africa, a library needs to be built for the students at the school in grades PreK-12. Currently the School has small library areas in each of the primary classrooms, but those just have fiction books.  A library would allow for sections of both fiction and nonfiction for all students.  Books could be received from the US for research and learning.  The library would have both books and technology.  Internet connection will be possible and donated computers have already been set aside to be shipped.  The library would be a place where students from kindergarten through college can come to read and learn.

The School of Hope is planning to add a teacher’s college on site where their own and any other teachers in Zambia can come and work towards further certification. This is another reason for needing a library.  The Zambian government requires a library for the teacher college to be accredited.  The School of Hope Teacher’s College is hoping to have everything in place so that classes can begin in January, 2018.

The School of Hope, with this library, will be a unique school in all of Zambia.  Poor students in the Zambian bush will have a place that provides them with the resources they need for reading and learning.

AKCLI, our Global Mission partner, is praying that funding for the library will be timely and adequate for this next step in God’s plan for the children of Zambia.
