Jo and her husband, Tom, have been at Zion since 2013. Tom is recently fully retired as a pastor, allowing them to attend more regularly.
We are both lifelong Lutherans. Tom has been a Lutheran pastor for 55 years. My husband has been a mentor for me for nearly 57 years. He has a gift in teaching and preaching …the best pastor I have had.
Jo’s favorite Bible passage begins at Romans 8:35:
Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will hardship, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? …
With Jesus as my savior God is always with me! Everywhere I turn, God is there.
Making an Advent wreath was a church event when Tom was a pastor.
Our church provided all of the supplies. We then helped the participants in using the wreath, the meaning of Advent, etc.
These days, Tom and Jo have an Advent wreath at home and gather around it daily, lighting candles, reading scripture and meditating.
Advent is the time we sit and plan and prepare for the coming of Christ. It is a great time to spend more time in daily devotions.
Another favorite part of the Advent season is Christmas music programs and children’s programs.
Jo challenges herself to be more effective in expressing her faith and helping others do the same. She has been a seamstress for many years and loves to read. Tom enjoys woodworking, carving, writing, and many other hobbies. With Tom only recently fully retired, they are still looking at ways that they can participate at Zion within Jo’s mobility limitations.
Zion is a very welcoming church with many programs and activities available to meet many needs. We have known Pastor Ted and Sarah for many years. We love it here.
We have been richly blessed. We have 4 wonderful children and our 10 grandchildren are all good looking and way above average. We have had and continue to have a wonderful life serving God.
