Eli Etzel is the son of Doug & Wendy Etzel, and lives in rural Buffalo.
Eli graduated from high school this year, and plans to attend Concordia Nebraska in the fall, where he will play soccer and major in sports management. His hobbies include hanging with his friends and watching football. Eli’s home church is St. John’s Lutheran Church in Buffalo
He started attending Zion Day Camp (ZDC) as a camper when he was 6 or 7. Eli enjoyed ZDC so much, that when he was too old to attend as a camper, he didn’t want to leave ZDC behind, and started volunteering, which he did for two summers. Eli finally joined the paid staff in 2011 as a substitute counselor, and now is part of the regular staff, working every week.
The thing I like most about working at Zion is the laid back atmosphere and enjoyment with the children. My favorite part is making sure the children are enjoying themselves when they come.
Eli has been surprised at how much ZDC has changed over the years he’s been part of it as other staff come and go. Each combination of directors has had their own way of running ZDC, and it has been interesting for Eli to see how all of them ran it differently.
Asked about his future involvement with ZDC, Eli says he is unsure but is “sure God will have me do what’s right when the time comes.”
