Council Update 2021.02

Jameson

I would like to start this update with an introduction. For those whom I haven’t met yet, my name is Jameson Wakefield and I am the 2021 Zion Council President. This is my second year with the Council and I am looking forward to serving Zion in the role of Council President. I would also like to introduce three new Council members – Joan Halderson, who is kind enough to take the role of Treasurer this year, Kevin Kuhns and Deb Rude. Thank you for your willingness to serve on the Council. I would also like to thank Jim Bischoff for serving a second term on the Council and Dirk Foster for his great leadership as 2020 Council President in what was a challenging year.

I wanted to start this first message with an optimistic tone that 2021 would be a better year than 2020 but I’m afraid the tragedy that occurred at Allina Clinic on February 9 has placed a veil over the beginning of the year. I know as a congregation our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families as well as all those who were caught up in that terrible event. Zion will continue to offer support to the community for those who need spiritual support as well as our other ministries that provide clothing and food for those in need.

As we move into 2021, the Church Council is looking for individuals that want to help shape Zion’s future. During the December Congregational Meeting, a twopastor model with a Youth Director position was approved. With that approval, the existing Call Committee has a new task to search for a second full time pastor. The current Call Committee has been in existence for roughly two years so we have offered the current members the option to stay on for this new call or step down if desired. As a result we are looking for three new members. If you have an interest in helping select a new pastor for our congregation please contact Pastor Ted. We would really like someone who has a child or children in any of the Youth Ministry programs, or recently had a child/children in any of the programs.

There is also a search committee that could use some additional members to help locate a Youth Director. Once again if you have, or recently had, a child or children in any of the Youth Ministry programs that would be of additional value to the committee.

2021 will be a busy year for Zion and we hope to have some exciting opportunities coming up including an update to the sanctuary carpeting and pew cushions. Thank all of you for your support of Zion and the work that you do to make Zion a welcoming place of worship. If you have questions or feedback I am open to connecting.
