Did you know that those purchases are part of our Global Missions work?

Fair Trade certification is a product certification system working to assure that products meet certain environmental, labor and developmental standards. All Lutheran World Relief (LWR) coffee, tea, cocoa and chocolate bars sold at Zion are certified Fair Trade. Additionally, LWR’s delicious products are certified organic.

LWR and Equal Exchange work with small-scale coffee and cocoa farmers around the world to not only improve the quality and value of their crops so that they can earn more income and therefore better support their families and communities, it also provides these farmers an opportunity to earn a fair price for their crops while also practicing agricultural sustainability.

Each pound of product purchased generates $0.20 for the LWR Small Farmer Fund to support small-scale coffee and cocoa farmers, provide technical assistance, and improve access to credit, marketing and training.

What’s more, for every item sold, $1 is transferred to the funds available for distribution to Zion’s Global Missions projects. This sounds like a “having your cake and eating it, too” sort of deal!

Visit Dave Nerothin in the narthex on the second Sunday of each month to learn more and to take advantage of purchasing the wonderful array of coffee, tea, cocoa and chocolate bars available.
