Daryl and Linda were married at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in South Minneapolis 44 years ago, and attended Bethlehem when their children, Michelle, Brent, and Sarah, were young. They lived in Minnetonka for 28 years, and joined Minnetonka Lutheran in 1982. Linda served as Sunday School Superintendent for three years, and they both taught Sunday school.
They moved to Buffalo in 2002 when their children were grown.
Once we had settled into our home in Buffalo, we visited many of the Lutheran churches in the area. After visiting both large and small congregations, we decided that we felt most comfortable in a larger congregation. Pastor Folkerds was quick to visit us at home and invite us personally to become members. A very nice touch, and it prompted us to transfer our membership to Zion soon after.
They enjoy the variety of music opportunities at Zion.
Although we don’t actively participate in many of them we certainly enjoy listening. A favorite is the children’s Christmas program.
They were soon invited to join a Bible study led by Rick Johnson, and have enjoyed attending a variety of Bible study classes over the years.
We looked at this as an opportunity to meet some people at Zion. Those friendships have shaped our faith journey over the past few years.
Those friendships have also led to ministry opportunities for Daryl and Linda, including serving on the Social Ministry Committee.
Roger and Sandy Brenny were two of the first people we really got to know at Zion. Watching the hours that both Roger and Sandy give freely for the success of this committee is inspiring. They truly walk in the light of Christ.
Daryl is a Mechanical Engineer and is a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of MN. He owns Mechanical Systems which sells commercial heating and air conditioning products. He enjoys golfing, fishing, hunting and spending time on the lake. Daryl enjoys helping with many of the Social Ministry outreach programs such as Fare for All and the Blessing Closet distribution. His favorite Bible verse is Psalm 118:24.
This is the day the Lord has made: let us rejoice and be glad in it.
This verse exemplifies the way I approach each new dawn, knowing that the Lord has given me another day to live life to its fullest and knowing that Christ is my Savior. [Daryl]
Linda is employed by Buffalo Hospital, where she works with insurance. She enjoys gardening, cooking, sewing and traveling. Linda thought about singing in the choir for many years and has now been a Senior Choir member for almost a year. She finds solace in the beatitudes and Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8.
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven …
After the early death of both my mother and father when I was 27 and 28, I was very angry at God. There is a comfort in the words of these verses that I have always found consoling. [Linda]
