Four years ago in October, my husband and I moved from Washington State to Buffalo, Minnesota to live closer to family. Four years ago in October, my husband and I first attended worship service at Zion Lutheran Church. Family and Zion Lutheran Church have been intertwined in my life ever since that first month. They have been the constant themes throughout my time in Buffalo.
Two experiences stand out among many at Zion that are the most meaningful and consistent. One is the beautiful Sunday worship service I have attended over the past four years and the other is participation in the Naomi Circle. How did I become involved in Zion Lutheran Church? My Mother invited my husband and me! How did I become involved in the Naomi Circle? My Mother invited me! And, there are activities I have accessed by volunteering for them. They have included Harvest of Hands, Meals on Wheels, Wednesday Night Suppers and Mission Jamaica.
Services and experiences have come to my family and me through the love and grace of this congregation. There have been several Bible Study events that I have attended, along with Santa Lucia suppers, Women’s Spring Luncheons, and many special music concerts – my favorites being the Monroe Crossing Blue Grass Band and the combined gospel music concerts presented by Zion and Redeemer Lutheran Churches. I have accessed the church library for inspirational reading material. On the first Sunday of every month, a couple from Zion takes time from their busy schedule to bring communion to my 94 year old father in the comfort of his home. The Naomi Circle has been a loving and supportive presence in my Mother‘s life for 14 years. It is now is something we share and I always look forward studying the Bible with these faith filled ladies. The Mission Jamaica mission trip provided an unforgettable experience for my husband and me. It was a very special small group adventure that profoundly touched our lives.
These are the experiences along with a meaningful worship service that move me to prioritize and support Zion Lutheran Church as much as possible. And, I support this church because I feel that Zion has high expectations of God and of its congregation. Zion does not passively hope for great things. It seems, through a great love for God Our Father and the servant hearts offered to Him, that Zion expects God will work through this church to accomplish His will. Zion has great expectations of a living God. Zion expects miracles. Zion is about God!
