Rachel may be familiar face to many, as she has worked at Zion twice in the past, as one of Zion Day Camp’s early counselors, and as Co-Director of Children and Family Ministry for part of 2013. She most recently worked as the Director of Family Ministries at Word of Peace Lutheran Church in Rogers.
As Family Events Coordinator at Zion, Rachel will coordinate the many family events we already do at Zion such as ZFest, Trunk or Treat, and Good Friday Cross Crafts, and will be exploring and implementing new family events.
This position falls heavily into the “i” in the Zion KiDS acronym: Invite others! While it might just seem like a fluffy ball of fun – there is SO much important ministry that happens when we host fun, engaging, and purpose-filled events. We encourage families to spend time together. We also throw open the doors and invite our community to celebrate with us. So many people encounter church for the first time thru events such as these. It’s incredibly important outreach that we are called to do. In a world where people are experiencing loneliness at epidemic levels, we can help them feel welcome.
There is SO much already happening here at Zion already and even more potential that is just waiting to be tapped into. I am thrilled to be part of the CYF staff here – we have all different strengths and lots of experience we can bring to the table. We complement each other really well. The Holy Spirit will be keeping us busy, that’s for sure!
Rachel has been married to Michael for 11 years. Michael grew up in Buffalo, and at Zion. They have two children, Ben (7) and Lauren(4).
I adore my family. We care for, love, support, and encourage each other every day. Students might recognize Michael as the Middle School Band Director at BCMS. Ben is in 2nd grade and is a gregarious little guy with a huge imagination. Lauren is in preschool and loves to care for things and is big into “helping.” We have two dogs, Maggie & Sookie, and live on the west side of town.
My husband will tell you it’s a challenge to get me to sit still. I love to spend time with family & friends – especially entertaining. I also have started to hone a few more of my domestic skills – gardening, baking, cooking, sewing, etc. I’m a bit of an artist at heart so I love creating things and working with my hands. We also love catching up on all the latest shows – everything from The Good Place to The Handmaid’s Tale.
Nothing, absolutely nothing, can separate you from the love of God! Romans 8:38-39 (paraphrase)
