God’s Big Shovel

God’s people, using God’s money and resources for God’s glory. That’s how I describe our congregation.

One of the duties I perform for church council is counting the Sunday offering. We are instructed to keep all the information confidential, so when I look at the checks I only look at the dollar amount and key that amount into the adding machine as quickly as I can. So I don’t really know who is giving what, but I am constantly amazed at how the numbers add up every Sunday. We truly have a congregation that wants to make a difference in the world.

Giving is a way that we can emulate God. It is the action verb in John 3:16;

For God so loved the world that he GAVE his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

We cannot give as much as Jesus gave, but we can challenge ourselves to give more in time, talent, and treasure. As we do, we become more and more aligned with God. As God shovels his blessings onto you, grab your own shovel and give some of those blessings back to God. If you have a 3% shovel, grab a 4% shovel. If you have a 10% shovel try the 11% shovel. Don’t be surprised if you end up with more than you started with. God has a shovel that is bigger than you can image!

Bring your full tithe to the Temple treasury so there will be ample provisions in my Temple. Test me in this and see if I don’t open up heaven itself to you and pour out blessings beyond your wildest dreams.Malachi 3 (MSG)
