Harley has just begun his 3-year term on Zion’s church council.
He is married to LeAnn who is a lifetime member of Zion, and the daughter of Jerry & Bea Specht. They were married at Zion almost 40 years ago, and their son Josh was baptized and grew up enjoying the ministry of Zion. Josh is now married, and they have two grand girls, Hannah who is 3.5 and Lydia who is 15 months old.
Prior to being down sized a year ago, Harley worked for Edy’s Grand Ice Cream (Nestle) for 28 years. Now he is semi-retired and works part-time for Bernatello’s Foods in Maple Lake.
Harley taught Sunday school and confirmation classes when Josh was younger. He has represented the congregation at Minneapolis Area Synod assemblies, and has helped with Lutefisk dinners. Harley was also part of the 2013 Mission Jamaica team (pictured). In the future he would be interested in getting involved with the Buffalo Food Shelf.
When asked why he serves on the church council, Harley says
Our family has been very blessed. Now that I have time I want to give back. I hope to make a positive difference in our church. Being on the council will make me more aware of how I can do this.
In the few months he has served on the council he has been pleased to find that the meetings are well run and that consideration is given to newer members, letting them get involved as they feel comfortable.
