Hearts in Sync

Sue grew up in Bloomington, Minnesota, with a neighbor who was a special influence on her faith. That neighbor was Herb Brokering, a well-known author, poet, playwright, hymn writer, and popular speaker.

He had an amazing way of finding God in EVERYTHING and shared his ideas with our community through his own story-telling, and by taking time to listen to the stories of others. He always had a joyful outlook on life and inspired me to strive to do the same.

Her favorite Bible verse is I John 4:7-8:

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
When we take the time to remember that God is love, life becomes joy and all things are possible! I try to remember to be in a constant conversation with God throughout my daily encounters with others … thanking God for the joys of daily life, asking forgiveness for my screw-ups and generally keeping an open heart in all things.

Sue works as an art teacher in the Elk River School District, a freelance artist and a musician. She enjoys gardening, spending time with family, bike riding, running, and community arts.

I am a member of the Buffalo Arts Guild, I teach music/art at Lake Sylvia Flute Institute, I perform music with my amazing husband at the Buffalo Farmer’s Market, I support Border Collie Rescue of MN through sales of my border collie prints, and I facilitate “Open Draw” with LeeAnn Goerss at Buffalo’s Open Streets event.

Sue  is married to Tom, an RN at Allina Hospital in Buffalo. They moved to Buffalo shortly before the birth of their second child, Margaret.

We hadn’t decided on a church home yet, but when Margaret was born, Sherilyn came to our door to deliver Margaret’s birth rose. Sherilyn’s lovely smile, beaming with friendship and joy opened the door to our future church home which has continued to be a loving and welcoming center in our hearts. The people are so open to giving, loving each other within the church as well as outside the walls in the rest of the community of Buffalo. Zion is such an imbedded and powerful force within our community and I love being a part of that energy!

Sue’s involvement with Zion’s music ministry runs deep, and she is more than happy to share her gift of music by helping with children’s music, singing in the Senior Choir and the Gospel Choir, and playing the flute ‘for anyone who asks.’

Most of all, I like playing and singing with others in really large groups. Research shows that when a group of people sing together, their hearts beat in sync… what an amazing way to praise God, coming together as one body in song!

Sue & Tom’s older son, Tommy, is now living in Nashville, Tennessee, and working as a musician. Margaret is completing her degree in film and video at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in Minneapolis. Younger son,  Chris, is entering his junior year at Mankato State University, where he is studying secondary education. Sue’s father, Bob Davies, is also a member of Zion.
