Inspired by Volunteers

Mike and Jill Davis live in Rockford. They have two daughters, Ellie (10) and Tia (soon to be 8). Both of them enjoy piano, horseback riding, Girl Scouts and other interests which keep the family very busy.

They were visiting churches shortly after they were married in the summer of 2000 when they first came to Zion. “I believe we were at the early service that day, and we were ‘highly encouraged’ to come back later that afternoon for the new member class. We were inducted as members the following Sunday.”

Mike Davis has served on the church council since 2011 and is currently in the final year of his term. “The opportunity presented itself, and I believed that it was my time to get more involved and do my part.” Mike has found that serving on council has forced him out of his comfort zone and helped him get to know a lot more people at Zion.

“I think the most surprising and humbling thing I’ve seen on council these last few years is the huge amount of activity going on at Zion that we hear reports of monthly. All the hours and devotion put in by so many volunteers is very inspiring.”

His council responsibilities include serving as congregational Treasurer, representing the council on the Finance Committee and Zion Foundation Investment Committee. In the past he has served on the Memorial Committee, sung with the Senior Choir and served as a confirmation guide. He and Jill also serve on Sundays as greeters or coffee fellowship hosts.

Mike has worked at Hutchinson Technology for 15 years as an advanced product development engineer. He is also a member of the Winsted Karate Club and enjoys volunteering at the Rockford Riverworks Thrift Store. He is currently setting up a home based business to produce school fundraising products.
