Joy to the World

Four advent candles

300 years ago, a young hymn writer Isaac Watts penned the lyrics for a new song to add to his collection of Psalms of David. The hymn, based on Psalm 98, Psalm 96:11–12, and Genesis 3:17–18, has grown to be one of the most beloved Christmas carols, Joy to the World. There are no shepherds, or angels, or even Mary, Joseph, and an infant Jesus mentioned in this carol yet it prepares us during Advent to celebrate with full voices of joy once Christmas comes.
