Keeping Faith

Brittany has been at Zion since she was two years old. Her parents, step-dad, and siblings are also members of Zion, along with a large extended family.

My favorite thing about Zion is the pastors and members. They make me feel loved and I know I can come to them any time.

I have a few people who have been instrumental in my faith. One would be my mom. Pastor Folkerds helped me through a lot and he kept my faith going during a hard part of my life.

She started volunteering with Zion’s children’s ministries as a teen, and has continued ever since. She has taught Sunday school for 12 years, and has volunteered at VBS for several years in the past, and finds it rewarding.

The best thing about volunteering for Sunday school helping children learn about God and watching them grow in their faith. They remember everything you did for them, and you get hugs and smiles. It is so rewarding.

Brittany now has two sons, Riley and Wesley, who participate in Zion’s Children and Family Ministry. She was young when she became a mom, and her experience has given her a passion for supporting other young moms.

Living God’s call means to do things God wants you to do and follow the journey he takes you on. I live my faith in community by talking to young women who are moms or are going to be moms. I like to try to help them keep faith and get through it.

She also volunteers as a soccer coach and sponsorship volunteer and as den leader, committee chair, and awards chair for Cub Scouts Pack 358, and serves with Zion’s 3rd Sunday Welcome Crew, helping greet worshipers until it is time to go to Sunday school.

In the last few years, Brittany has had a series of unsuccessful leg and foot surgeries and has struggled at times to have faith that God would get her through them all.

I pray to God every day that something helps. But it hasn’t so, that has been my hardest faith challenge. When things get really bad for me, my mom will remind me why God is with me, and to just pray. and will make sure I get through it. When my oldest knows why I have been through a lot, he reminds me that God is with me and I feel my Grandma Elaine is right there to guide me through it.

Her favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:13

I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

No matter how hard things seem to be, remember keep your faith in God and God will help you through anything.

Brittany’s interest in working with children eventually became a career, and she now works as a preschool teacher at Kid’s Haven Child Care and Preschool in Buffalo. She enjoys swimming and being outside with her family. Her hope for Zion’s future is that the congregation keeps growing and keeps bringing new families in to see what a great family we are.
