Our Lenten observance comes to an end on Maundy Thursday, and we gather with Christians around the world to celebrate the Three Days of Jesus’ death and resurrection. Tonight we remember Christ’s last meal with his disciples, but the central focus is his commandment that we live out the promise embodied in this meal. As Jesus washed his disciples’ feet, so we are called to give and receive love in humble service to one another. Formed into a new body in Christ through this holy meal, we are transformed by the mercy we have received and carry it into the world. Departing worship in solemn silence, we anticipate the coming days.
This service is scheduled to stream on Facebook and YouTube at 5pm on Thursday, April 9.
Audio of the message and children’s message will also be available on our podcast.
During this online worship service, you will be invited to participate in communion at home. We know you won’t have the exact same elements that we use when we are in worship in the sanctuary, and this is okay.
When Jesus was having the last supper with his friends he did not have any special items, rather he reached for the bread and wine what was on the table for their Passover feast. So when you are gathering your elements for communion reach for what you have. It could be any variety or wine or fruit juice, and any kind of bread product (rolls, pita bread, sandwich bread, a cinnamon roll, crackers, etc.).
We will partake in this meal to remind ourselves we are a part of the communion of saints and will commune with all those who have gone before us, all who are here with us now and those yet to come. Remember Jesus invited us to remember him every time we eat or drink and do it in remembrance of him.
