Mission Jamaica 2018

A Vacation with a Purpose

Mission Jamaica is a short-term ‘vacation with a purpose’ program, which began at St. Andrew’s Church in Mahtomedi, MN in 1990. Since that time, over 35 other congregations from many states have partnered with St. Andrew’s in this mission field. Mission Jamaica allows a way to serve your neighbor, immerse yourself in another culture, allow spiritual rest, and time to build relationships with your fellow church members.

A team of 32 members from Zion, Word of Peace, and St. Henry’s Church are going to serve in the Montego Bay Area in Jamaica, February 17-24, 2018. The team consists 11 males and 21 females, including two doctors, five nurses, two pastors. Fifteen members of the team will be experiencing Mission Jamaica for the first time while 17 members are returning to serve.

Service during the week will include a medical clinic where team members will provide medical attention to local men, women, and children. Team members will also be building a home for Nickesia Williams (pictured), a mother of five children. Their new home will be built on family property, “Johnson Hill,” and will consist of a wood flooring rather than cement.

While team members will work hard during their Mission Jamaica experience, there will be time to relax as well. Devotions will occur each evening to provide perspective on the day’s work and a chance for reflection. Activities to look forward to include swimming, snorkeling, shopping, sailing, relaxing by the pool, and hanging out with fellow members and building bonds that will last a lifetime.
