Mission Quilts

Zion’s quilting group has existed for many years for the purpose of making quilts to be given to those who need them. Mission quilts made by the group were usually sent to other countries, but recently the quilts have been given to the Rotary Club of Buffalo, MN for their “Beds for Children” program and to a veterans home in Sauk Centre, MN, called Eagles’ Healing Nest.

Ruth Baatz cuts blocks from donated fabric, and she and Marlys Corhouse sew the blocks into quilt tops. The top is layered with new polyester batting and a sheet on a quilt frame. Ruth and Marlys along with Nancy Rogness, Karen Bidne, and Maurean Fellger tie the layers together with yarn to form the quilt. Ruth finishes the quilt around the edges.

Donations of fabric and colored flat sheets are always needed. New volunteers are welcome on Monday Mornings at 9am to join the group in their worthy mission.
