It seems spring is trying to make its presence known and hopefully we will see more warm days in our future. The same is true for Zion. The Church Council has been addressing a number of topics that will help shape Zion’s future (see last month’s article). One of the most exciting topics has been the Sanctuary update. The Property Committee is moving ahead with bids for new pew cushions and chair updates. They are also looking into bids for the carpeting installation. Hopefully by summer things will be in high gear and our Sanctuary will be on its way to a brand new look. If you would like to help make this happen you can make contributions to the ’Renewing Our House ~ for Worship’ project to complete the financial support so we can complete the project. Monetary contributions aren’t the only way you can contribute. Each stage of the update project will need physical donations as well. Look for opportunities soon.
The last few months have seen big changes in the COVID-19 pandemic as well. Cases appear to be trending down and more and more people are getting vaccinated. While we can’t predict exactly what the future holds, there are a lot of questions about how we will address changes and if our protocols for in person service will be updated. The staff and council continue to monitor guidance from the MDH and CDC as well as monitoring the practices of other churches in the community. The challenge we face is to balance the desire of many to ease protocols with the concern of many to take steps they feel are keeping people safe. There is no perfect answer, whether it be from the medical community, government guidelines or a volunteer organization such as the council. While we can’t say we will be going back to normal, we can say we will strive to move forward to an environment that will encourage more of the congregation to return physically to the church. While not everyone will agree completely on the exact steps to take, most of us can agree that continuing Zion’s mission is the outcome we want: to continue to provide a place of worship for those seeking support, provide resources for those who are struggling and to give to those who are in need.
So, I will end with this. Spring is near, baseball season is right around the corner and our church remains strong. Thank all of you for your continued support.
