New CFM Coordinator

Shannon Carter is joining Zion’s Children and Family Ministry staff as the new CFM Coordinator, working alongside Kristin Lotthammer. The CFM staff are so excited for her to join us this summer and continue the momentum and excitement with our children and families!

Shannon grew up in Eagan, Minnesota. She and her family attended Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, where she was baptized and confirmed.

I accepted the Lord at a young age and through the many seasons and journeys of my life, I am reminded daily that He is my strength and my shield.

Her life verse is Revelation 2: 10:

Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.

Shannon has a Bachelor of Science degree in Community Health Education, and a passion for working with children.

I enjoy the special blessing of being a mother to my children, I was a Christian preschool teacher at a church in Austin, TX, and I am a dance teacher to preschool and elementary students.

Shannon met her husband, Bill, at the University of MN-Duluth. They have been married for 17 years and have four children: Julia (14), Maya (11), Eli (9), and Alexa (4).

I love spending quality time with my family and friends; being outdoors, going for walks; dancing; I am an avid MN sports fan, with the exception of football–Go Cowboys!

Shannon and Bill moved to Texas in 2009, and moved back to Minnesota in 2015.

We are happy to call Buffalo home. Since both Bill and I were raised in a hometown Lutheran church, we wanted the same for our children. We decided to attend Zion and felt very welcome! We were also amazed at the Children & Family Ministry Coordinators’ energy and their passion to fulfill Zion KiDS Mission Statement: Know God’s love, Invite others, Do like Jesus, Strengthen families.

Although the CFM staff always works together as a team, Shannon will be working largely with preschool children and Kristin Lotthammer will continue to focus on the elementary ages.

Shannon’s experience in the preschool area was a good fit for the programs Marsha had been focusing on. The CFM staff looks forward to a smooth transition as we continue to grow our Children & Family Ministry at Zion!

I am extremely blessed to be a part of Zion’s Children & Family Ministry team. I am excited to meet the wonderful preschool children, and to come alongside parents to help equip them in their children’s faith journey. My priority is to see young children become lifelong, passion-driven disciples of Jesus Christ.

Also new to the CFM team is Angie Newman, CFM Office Assistant. She will be working alongside Kirsten Kelly for approximately 5 hours/week. Look back next month for more about Angie and her addition to Zion’s staff.
