In today’s gospel (John 4:1-42) the Samaritan woman asks Jesus for water, an image of our thirst for God. Jesus offers living water, a sign of God’s grace flowing from the waters of baptism. As we journey to the resurrection feast, Christ comes among us in word, bath, and meal—offering us the life-giving water of God’s mercy and forgiveness.
Listen to some of the worship songs that had been planned for today’s worship services.
We come to the well, our spirits parched.
We come to the well, feeling dry inside.
We come to the well, unsure if we’re clean.
We come to the well, defeated and drained.
You sit by, hungry and thirsty yourself,
But ready to pour yourself out.
We thirst after you, Lord—
Your wisdom, your salvation,
The flow of life eternal.
Lead us in your ways, and open our hearts
To the spring that never dies.
In your name we pray. Amen.
