Reflecting on the 2020 Youth Gala

Hawiian Heist

Now that we have had some down time after the flurry of activity, we can finally reflect on this year’s Youth Gala. We are still in awe. We are so proud, amazed, and humbled by the entire event. We (Jess and Karie), as co-chairs of the Youth Gala for the last three years, have tried to learn from past events and learn new ways, but also to tip the triangle and take on the event 100%. This year we took it one step further, and while we mentored and did the work they could not … we let a team of four senior high girls run the entire evening! Kaylyn, Alexis, Emily and Nicolle did an amazing job!! The first planning meeting happened last summer and from that point on these girls were a part of the big decisions. Emily and Nicolle were in charge of the play and everything that went with it. Kaylyn and Alexis were a part of the organization and implementation of the evening (food and youth). While we were there to help – they all stepped up, and we are so proud!

Although these girls were the face of the Gala, they had many youth and adults working behind the scenes. We had over 25 youth (confirmation age) serving and cleaning tables, over 18 senior high youth and adults working doing different events and activities during the night. This really was a group effort and none of it would work without the team pulling together! We also had several youth and parent volunteers for set up and tear down. This is not even mentioning the different people that have supported us in different ways, including providing baskets and desserts!

The numbers are finally coming in… and all we can say is thank you! (and WOW!) With all moneys in and counted, the dessert auction, silent auction, ticket sales and separate donations, our total is over $5000. This money will help kids go on mission trips and camp. It will help us fund youth activities throughout the year as well as get us started on next year’s 2021 Youth Gala.

It was a great night and a lot of hard work and so worth it! The youth in our church are amazing! We enjoy working with them, and we are looking for ways to connect with more of them! If you are a youth in our church and are interested in getting involved in the 2021 Youth Gala … reach out now! We have already started working on putting together some NEW ideas, and we already see the need for more youth to be involved (and adults … hint, hint). Please feel free to reach out to us if you want to be involved (Jess: 612.709.1221 / Karie: 763.229.3586).

Save the Date!

The 2021 Youth Gala will be Saturday, March 6, 2021. This will be one you do not want to miss! Watch for more news soon!

Finally if you were at our Youth Gala or supported it – we speak for all of our youth… Thank you!
