Reflecting Who We Are

Suzie is one of the faces behind Zion’s new website. She owns a local business, Red Technologies, offering web development, search engine optimization, mobile app development, online marketing, video production, and social media. She had recently joined Zion when the branding task force was formed in 2013.

It seemed like a natural way I could volunteer and make a difference at Zion.  Zion is such an amazing church community, and in order to have that seen by the outside world, our branding needs to be updated to reflect who we are today.  I also was looking forward to getting involved in the church to get to know others in the church.

In the beginning, Suzie helped in advising how the new website should be laid out, and what Zion should consider when building the site.  Eventually, Red Technologies and Suzie played more of a hands-on role,  hired to put the finishing touches on the site to make it function exactly as envisioned.

It has been such a pleasure being a part of the process!  I enjoyed getting to know the staff and some members in a way I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to otherwise.

Suzie’s dad, a Missouri Synod Lutheran pastor, was a big influence in her faith life.

All through growing up, even though he was a pastor he was very open to allowing us to ask questions and helping us stay on the right path without being too pushy or forceful.  It, in the end, was our decision, and it worked.  He also taught me what it means to be a Christian and how to live my life accordingly.

Suzie’s favorite Bible verse is her confirmation verse, John 3:16.

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.

Suzie is married to Colin, and their children are Sydney (12), Kyra (11), and Eyan (9). The family visited many churches in the area after they decided their previous church home wasn’t a good fit for them.

The first time we visited Zion we knew it was the right fit for us. Everyone was so welcoming right away and that means a lot to us.  I have never felt more at home in  a church than I do at Zion.

One of the things Suzie and Colin most love about Zion is that their children are excited to be part of Sunday school and confirmation.

I can’t even say I was ever excited to go to confirmation!  Don’t tell my dad though!  🙂

Suzie and her family are also part of the ‘Breakfast for Supper’ Wednesday supper team.

That has been such a great experience for my whole family!  It’s a great way we can volunteer as a family while also getting to meet so many of the members who come through to eat!  There is never any judgment and I feel very appreciated no matter how small my role is in what I am doing at church.  That is such a rare thing to find, and I am so glad to call Zion my church home!

Suzie enjoys networking and meeting new people both at church and in the community. She served on the Buffalo Chamber of Commerce board for four years, and was the chair in 2014. She is also an active parent volunteer at Northwinds Elementary School and Buffalo Middle School. She likes to run (she will be running her 13th marathon in October), read, hang out with family/friends, and recently started biking (she is currently planning a 100-mile bike ride in September).
