St Lucia Supper

Zion holds an annual St Lucia Supper in December each year.

Sign up from mid-November until the day of the event.

Zion Scandinavian roots are celebrated, along with the light of Advent, each December at the Santa Lucia Supper.

The St. Lucia Supper is a family friendly event that highlights the Swedish tradition of Lucia, who gave food to those in need. Many Swedish families and communities celebrate St. Lucia Day with a breakfast served by the oldest daughter in the family or someone chosen to wear the Lucia crown of lighted candles.

A light supper is served, including a variety of soups, breads, and cheeses, as well as Scandinavian specialties like fruit soup, rice pudding with lingonberries, rosettes, kringle, krumkake, almond cake, lefse, and cardamom cookies.

A brief program usually includes music, scripture, sharing of Scandinavian traditions, and lighting of candles. The Santa Lucia legend is retold, and Santa Lucia and her court serve traditional Lucia rolls.

We have 7 grandchildren and 1 step-grandchild. They now live on the farm Phyllis grew up on, and are dairy farmers. I help Len in the barn, feeding, milking and ... more

She was a nursing home administrator, and enjoyed working with seniors. When I retired, I started a lay visitation ... more
