Since the beginning of time, our Creator continues to bless our life and offer absolute love. God’s gift of His only son, Jesus, who offered His own life for us on the cross is the ultimate example of sacrifice. We walk in the footsteps of Christ when we give sacrificially. The starting point for Sacrificial Giving is the basic principle of Christian stewardship – everything we have is a gift from God. In gratitude for God’s generosity, we offer our time, talents and money to further God’s kingdom.
The Lenten season is a good time to reflect on why and how we make sacrifices. As there are a variety of gifts, there are multiple ways in which to give. Some choose to give something up or make a change in their personal lives. Others choose to give their time and talents to a specific ministry. When deciding how to use your gifts the sky is the limit. In response to God’s unconditional love, I invite you to ponder your choices. Lent is a time to strengthen and renew your relationship with God. Giving will make a difference in your life, as well as those around you.
The Bible tells us that
The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed. Proverbs 11:25
Sacrificial Giving is an opportunity to return to God a portion of the gifts He has given you and to strengthen the ministries at Zion. Your decision about your giving will be one which mirrors your gratefulness to God for the gifts you have received. Ponder, reflect, answer “Yes” to the talents God has placed within you.
