Brianna is a member of Zion and was Zion’s Summer Intern in 2015. This Summer she is working with the Soul Sisterhood organization, including their visit to Zion July 25-28.
I’m so excited to be a counselor at Soul Sisterhood this year and start a new journey working to empower and guide young women in their faith. I worked with the founder of Soul Sisterhood, Amanda Berger, last year when Soul Sisterhood came to Zion for a three-day day camp. The girls who attended loved it and I had a blast helping with all the activities! Soul Sisterhood is all about empowering young women (middle school and high school) and helping them grow in their faith. We do a ton of fun crafts, bake, play games (capture the flag is a camp favorite), and spend time worshiping together.
This year’s theme is blossom and is all about growing and changing in our faith. We may start small like seeds, but big and beautiful things can come from something small when it is nurtured and loved. I’m excited to work with a different age group through Soul Sisterhood even though it was hard leaving ZDC and all the awesome staff and kids, but I’m excited to see what God has in store for me!
Brianna has attended Zion her whole life.
I grew up going to Sunday school and VBS and I was confirmed here.
Her mom, Christine, is a preschool teacher (and also a volunteer in Zion’s Children and Family Ministries), her dad is an inside salesman for a hydraulics company, and she has two brothers, Hunter and Max. Brianna’s parents and Sunday school teachers were instrumental in her faith journey, and she started volunteering with Zion’s Children and Family Ministry herself as soon as she was able.
I’ve taught Sunday school at Zion for 5 years and I’ve volunteered at VBS since I was in 6th grade. I love sharing my faith and teaching about God’s love.
Her favorite bible verse is Psalms 91:11
“For he will give his angels watch over you to guard and protect you in all your ways.”
This is a verse that I find to be very comforting. My godmother who passed away chose this verse for me when I was confirmed.
Brianna is currently a student at the College of Saint Benedict in St Joseph, MN. Her major is Elementary Education, with a minor in teaching English as a second language.
[In the 2014-2015 school year] I had the awesome opportunity to work at Discovery Elementary School in Waite Park. Discovery is a very diverse school, with many Somali and Hispanic students, and I’ve had the best time working with and learning from these students. After college I’m hoping to work at an elementary school or teach English abroad for a year. I enjoy spending time with friends, going to the lake, reading, drinking coffee, going to baseball games and [last year I] started teaching myself the ukulele!
Zion always feels like home to Brianna.
