Joy in the Shadows
“God, Your faithful love is so valuable that people take refuge in the shadow of Your wings.”Psalm 36:7
Thanks in part to all the mystery books, movies, and TV shows, we have come to fear walking in the shadows. Death and destruction reportedly linger in the darkness. But the Bible tells us that the place to be is in the shadow of the Lord. Plenty of Bible verses speak of hiding in, or taking refuge in, or even dwelling in the shadow of God’s wings. Like children who huddle together under the bed covers during a storm, we find safety and security in the idea of nestling under the Lord’s wings. Just the shadow of those wings is enough to protect us!
God didn’t need to handle the planets to create them and set them in motion; He doesn’t have to physically tough us to heal us; and He can protect us without actually wrapping His arms (or wings) around us. In each case, all He needs to do is to think the act, and it will be done. Likewise, all we need to do is place ourselves in His shadow to be completely secure.
“It gives me great joy, Lord, to know that I can find refuge and security just by being in Your shadow. I choose to place myself there. Amen.”“365 Devotions for Living Joyfully” by Victoria York
